Visitors to Phuentsholing main town will be guaranteed a more beautiful and cleaner version of the city thanks to Phuentsholing Thromde’s effort to beautify and clean the country’s business hub.
The Thromde has completed the beautification of important landmarks within the core town and is in the process of extending its activities to the extended Thromdes.
Already, plantations along the national highway have been completed this year. The installation of open air gym in two different locations has started helping the fitness enthusiasts. Zangdopelri in the core town is being developed in to recreational parks for elderly citizens and visitors.
Recreational parks on the way to Kabreytar are under progress and are expected to complete this year. Phuentsholing Thrompon Uttar Kumar Rai said that the Thromde aspires to be a model city in the country. He said that the efforts invested are for the future of the town. “The change will be witnessed in the future, when all those plants grow,” he said.
A flower nursery has been set up in Kabreytar to supply flowers to the Thromde during need. Four staff work in the nursery daily to nurture the flowers and supply them whenever necessary. “We don’t have to spend extra to procure the flowers,” the Thrompon said.
Simultaneously, Phuentsholing Thromde is also planning to be a litter-free town. The Thrompon said there will be challenges to this end but if all the stakeholders and public unite and work together, they could reach the goal. Already, around six garbage trucks ply around the city collecting garbage thrice a day. However, Uttar Kumar Rai said that the Thromde is unable to provide similar services to extended Thromdes but they plan to when they have more garbage trucks. “We request people to cooperate with us in making our town litter-free,” he said.
The Thromde also organizes cleaning campaigns to promote cleanliness in the town.
Phuentsholing Thromde, however, faces numerous challenges to move ahead with its pledges to make the town clean and green. The Thrompon said that without much cooperation from the people the Thromde alone cannot clean the city always.“Responsible disposal of waste can reduce the workload of the workers and community involvement is necessary to succeed.”
Phuentsholing Thromde also plans to develop more community parks and recreational centers in the 12th plan to promote community bond. “People will develop a sense of belongingness through such facilities,” he said. The Thromde has planned to divide the dzongkhag budget to every Tshogpa to carry out their programs. But the amount is yet to to be ascertained. “We are working hard and one day we will make this city a model city by overcoming challenges,” said the Thrompon.
