Former MP Kinga Tshering likely to join DNT

The former Member of Parliament (MP) from the North-Thimphu constituency from Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT), Kinga Tshering, will most probably make a comeback into politics as a candidate from the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) in the upcoming elections this year.

Though there has been no official confirmation as of now, the Secretary General of DNT, Tenzin Lekphell, said, “He seems interested in us and we are also interested in him. Though it has not been finalized but the talk is still going on.”

He added that Kinga Tshering brings with him vast experience and would benefit the country.

Meanwhile, Kinga Tshering had submitted his resignation while serving as an MP on August 11, 2016. He had reportedly filed his resignation after the National Assembly could not grant him a long-term study leave to attend Harvard University in the USA.

Tenzin Lekphell added that Kinga Tshering seems to be interested and comfortable with the good set of teams of DNT.

And on his resignation from DPT, Tenzin Lekphell said based on one incident, one should not judge him. “Why he resigned, he knows the reason better than anyone else,” he added.

The former MP Kinga Tshering, prior to entering politics, was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Druk Holdings and Investment –INFRA that looked after DHI’s ambitious infrastructure projects. He also served as the CEO of the Bank of Bhutan.

Kinga Tshering joined DPT to replace the earlier Foreign Minister Ugyen Tshering from the North-Thimphu constituency.

The former MP, who is currently in USA, did not respond while contacting for comments.
