Former journalist to contest for NC from T/yangtse

Citing his strength to be strong knowledge about the laws and policies in the country, former Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS) journalist Phurpa Gyaltshen is ready to take on the National Council elections this year.

Thirty-nine year old Phurpa Gyaltshen is from Gocha village, Ramjar gewog in Trashiyangtse.

He said he intends to serve the Tsa-Wa-Sum with his knowledge and experience. “I decided to contest as I want to contribute toward strengthening the house of law.”

Phurpa Gyaltshen holds a Bachelors in Arts (Dzongkha) from Sherubtse College in Kanglung.

He had always dreamt of taking part in Bhutan’s democratic process. Prior to joining politics, Phurpa Gyaltshen worked in BBS as a reporter and editor for 13 years.

According to him, the political scenario in the country has improved compared to the past since people now know what is best for them and can decide accordingly.

Phurpa Gyaltshen said that if elected, he would contribute to the NC by seeing to it that it fulfilled its mandate of setting up a strong foundation of law.

“I have plans to develop education facilities and the farming community in my dzongkhag,” he added.

The council, he said, was the highest law making body, which would strengthen and safeguard peace and prosperity in the country.

Meanwhile, he has already familiarized himself with the people of his constituency and hopes they would support him during the election process.

Phurpa Gyaltshen feels that by contesting for NC, he is giving his people a choice so that they can elect the best candidate who can serve the community and fulfill its needs.

He wishes to serve his people and contribute to nation building.

Phurpa Gyaltshen said that going by the support from his family, fellow villagers and well-wishers, he believes that his decision to contest the council elections is a good move.
