Thirty-five year old Anand Rai will contest for the upcoming National Council (NC) elections from Gakidling gewog under Sarpang dzongkhag for the second time.
He is the lone NC candidate from his gewog.
Anand Rai graduated from North Eastern Hill University Shillong with a major in History in 2007. He worked as a chairman for the cooperative piggery farming at his village and then started his own construction firm.
Anand Rai said that having interacted with people while doing business, he has gained knowledge about the issues that his community faces.
“With my experience, I can proudly state that I can understand my people,” he added.
Anand Rai said that he would be able to serve his people with purpose in a timely manner. He feels that it is important for every Bhutanese to get accustomed with the laws of the country. He is contesting the NC elections with the hope that if he is elected, he will sensitize young people about how a democratic constitutional monarchy like Bhutan functions.
He hopes to serve the King, the people and the country with dedication and integrity. He said that although he has high chances of winning, it totally depends on the voters’ decision. Anand Rai further said that if he gets elected he will actively review matters affecting Bhutan’s security and sovereignty and act in the interest of the nation.
“I will work in synergy with our government and the people,” he said. Sarpang dzongkhag has seven NC aspirant candidates till date.
