Kinlay Dorji was nominated from among six National Council (NC) candidates from Geling gewog from Chhukha Dzongkhag this year.
The 34-year-old from Omchu, Kinlay Dorji completed Bachelors in Language and Literature from Taktse College of Language and Culture Studies, Trongsa in 2014. Before contesting, Kinlay Dorji worked in various sectors including tourism and the National Land Commission. He also served as a teacher in Dr. Tobgyal School in the capital.
Kinlay Dorji was inspired by His Majesty’s vision to lead a life as independent as possible from the civil service. If elected, he plans to lead youth to start taking steps toward being an independent generation.
He also wants to revise the current national policies and provide people the best benefits. He feels that there is a need to create awareness about national policies among the common people. “Since rules and policies are framed for the people, these should reach them first and the people should understand them.”
During his familiarization tour, he encountered many unemployed youth whom he wants to goad to take up modern and mechanized agricultural practices. Kinlay Dorji is also planning to improve accessibility and prices of farm products at the market. “Most farmers don’t get the income they deserve so we need to form good policies which pay them for their hard work,” he said adding that innocent farmers are being exploited by middlemen and traders.
As an Upper House MP, Kinlay Dorji plans to play his part in facilitating check and balance on the government of the day’s performance. “It’s our mandate and I will fulfill it for the larger interest of the nation,” he said.
Also, Kinlay Dorji wants to bring about a revival in agriculture nationwide. He said that Chhukha has huge scope for agriculture and livestock.
Kinlay Dorji said that the other candidates are also capable. “But the decision lies with the people,” he said. The father of two served as leader and councilor from primary school till college. He also received ‘Best Student of the Year’ award in college.
