Educated farmer aspires for NC, Dagana

Birendra Chimoria, a farmer, and former teacher and coach will be contesting for the National Council (NC) elections from Norbuzingkha village under Tshendagang gewog in Dagana.

According to him, serving in the NC would give him an opportunity to work for the King, country and the people in the best ways possible.

Citing his strengths as strong work ethics, discipline and good communication skills, Birendra Chimoria is clear about his decision: he hopes to become a responsible leader.

“I had to make a decision assessing myself, where I fit, the responsibilities I can undertake and also the tangible results I could bring. Ultimately, I felt I should contest for the NC,” he said.

Birendra Chimoria who has a Masters in health and physical education was a teacher in Dagapela Central school under Dagana Dzongkhag from 2014-15.

He also served at the Bhutan Football Federation as focal person for Dagana Dzongkhag and later served as General Secretary of Dagana Sports Association.

He has been at his village for the last five years experiencing the life of a farmer. Though he has worked in various capacities, he feels being a farmer has been the highlight of his life so far. “Being a passionate farmer helped me to connect with my fellow villagers. The bond between us has strengthened.”

He has helped his community incorporate new ideas in farming and seen it progress.

If elected, Birendra Chimoria wants to focus on uplifting agriculture and farming. He feels if one works hard, traditional farming methods can transcend to semi-modern farming, which will benefit the people and create more employment opportunities.

He said it would stop rural-urban migration and farmers could become self-sufficient.

Although he admits that he has strong competition for the NC post, he also believes that with the right strategy and planning, he can win.

Birendra Chimoria said that that he wants to complete the race now that he has entered it. “I have a lot of focus.”
