BKP announces candidate for Gelephu-Sarpang Constituency

Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party (BKP) declared its new candidate, Harka B. Gurung, for Gelephu-Sarpang constituency from Sarpang Dzongkhag on Thursday.

Harka B. Gurung is from Samdrupling in Gelephu Thromde, Sarpang Dzongkhag.  He studied B.A (Hons) in English from DAV College, Punjab University,Chandigarh,India and holds Post Graduate Diploma in Development Administration from Birmingham University, England.

He served in civil service for 38 years in various capacities. He served as the Director of National Library and Archives of the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs. He also served as Dungpa of Gelephu, Thrimshing and Dagapela.

Harka Gurung brings with him vast experience in integrated sustainable development and environment management.

The motive of BKP and its leadership to work and serve with integrity to change the image of politics and politicians motivated him to join the party.

“My sincere urge to give my best to serve my people and country motivated me to join politics,” he said.

He added that the long experience of having served as a civil servant in various capacities at community and department/ministry levels gives him the confidence that the people will trust him with the mandate to serve them.

According to Harka Gurung, democracy in Bhutan is a gift from the Golden Throne with a vision that there should be a vibrant democracy and BKP is seriously committed to ensure that it is achieved.

“It is my honest desire to work closely with and for the people to usher in true democracy as my all out last service,” he said.

His political journey is supported by his wife Aum Jyotshna Gurung and his twin-artist sons Tashi Dhendup and Ugyen Samdrup.
