About Responsibilities

In a remarkable display of unity and dedication, thousands of Bhutanese from across the country converged in Gelephu to contribute to the creation of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). From farmers and monks to students and professionals, every hand that lifted a tool, every heart beating in harmony with another, embodied Bhutan’s enduring spirit of solidarity.
The volunteers also reflect the sacred Sovereign – subject bond and devotion Bhutanese hold for His Majesty. And beyond this, the gathering highlights the nation’s deep patriotism and civic responsibility, and sends a powerful message to the world: Bhutan, though small in size, is mighty in vision, unity, and courage.
This time, a new rhythm entered the national song: the birth of the Pelsung. In a moment brimming with hope and inspiration, His Majesty announced the formation of this third group of nation-builders: the Pelsung—the Guardians of Prosperity. This historic initiative calls upon Bhutanese youth to contribute creative and practical solutions for the development of GMC.
Our youth have always had a special place in His Majesty’s heart. This is evident from His Majesty’s Royal addresses, where the youth are always present—in vision, in word, and in aspiration. This is no coincidence, but conviction—the belief that Bhutan’s youth, as architects of tomorrow, will bring imagination, energy, and dedication to every challenge, turning ambition into action, curiosity into solutions, and vision into tangible progress. And through the establishment of Pelsung, His Majesty has once again placed the youth at the heart of Bhutan’s future, reaffirming the trust, love, and faith he has in them.
While the Pelsung opens vast opportunities for Bhutanese youth, it carries profound responsibilities – one that demands integrity, courage, and unwavering commitment. Further, they are entrusted to honor the faith and expectations of His Majesty and the nation and like the Dessung and Gyalsung, lead with integrity, innovate with purpose, and act with courage. They are called to breathe life into national projects, address practical challenges, and inspire their peers to serve, create, and dream boldly.
The wisdom and guidance of elders comes forth at this juncture. As parents, teachers, and guardians, it is our solemn responsibility to mentor, advise, and illuminate the path for our sons and daughters—to help them understand the opportunities before them, the challenges they may face, and the roles they are called upon to play in shaping the nation’s future. This is not merely guidance; it is a sacred duty, a moral and civic obligation we have towards our King and country.
Young people have energy, creativity, and ambition, but often lack the perspective and experience to channel them effectively. In such instances, it is our duty to help them navigate choices, avoid pitfalls, and maximize their potential, apart from assisting them in building confidence and resilience. It is also our obligation to foster leadership and responsibility in them.
By doing so, we ensure that the youth are not only aware of their responsibilities but are empowered to embrace them with confidence, integrity, and devotion to the collective good of the nation.
