Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) declared its 47th candidate for the upcoming National Assembly elections on Monday.
Namgay Tshering, a 39-year-old from Jeleykha under Naja gewog will contest from Dogar-Shaba constituency, Paro.
He has a Masters Degree in Public Health from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and a Bachelors Degree in BSc. Communication from University of Madras, Tamil Nadu, India.
Namgay worked for 14 years under the Ministry of Health. He started his career as the Communication Officer with Health Promotion Division. Next, he was promoted to Planning Officer and later became the World Bank Project Coordinator. He also worked as a National Program Manager with the National HIV/AIDS & STIs Control Program and served as Head of the Communicable Disease Division. He also worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a National Professional Officer.
Namgay is a Bronze medal recipient of Civil Service Recognition award and SAARC recognition award. Namgay also bagged a certificate of recognition and appreciation from Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck for successful conduct of Nationwide High Level Advocacy program on priority public health issues (2016-2017).
DNT formally gave party tickets to 46 candidates from various constituencies on June 1. Of the 47 candidates announced, 42 are men and five women.
Namgay Tshering said he joined DNT because of the party manifesto which has a point to benefit the general population of the country.
“I feel that we can contribute towards the fulfillment of the country’s developmental philosophy of Gross National Happiness,” he said adding that based on his experience, he feels he can contribute to his community.
