Across Oceans, Still in the King’s Heart: His Majesty’s Boundless Compassion

During His Majesty The King’s Royal Address on the occasion of Bhutan’s 118th National Day, delivered from the sacred and historic grounds of Wangduecholing Palace in Bumthang, one line carried extraordinary power far beyond the valley and across continents: “To all Bhutanese watching the celebrations, you are in our hearts wherever you are.”
For Bhutanese scattered across the globe, those words were not merely ceremonial. They were a profound reassurance—an affirmation that distance does not weaken belonging, and that every Bhutanese, whether at home or abroad, remains close to the heart of the King. In a single sentence, His Majesty bridged oceans and time zones, reminding his people that physical separation can never diminish the bond between King and country.
Though separated from home by continents, Bhutanese living abroad say they continue to feel protected, valued, and spiritually anchored—held by the unwavering care, wisdom, and presence of His Majesty The King. For many, his words are a source of strength in moments of uncertainty, loneliness, and struggle, offering comfort that feels both deeply personal and profoundly national.
Pema Lham, currently working in Kuwait, shared that listening to His Majesty’s speeches renews her strength and resolve during difficult times.
“Whenever I feel low, I listen to His Majesty’s speeches to charge myself and rise again,” she said. “Representing myself as a proud Bhutanese in another nation, I am not afraid even if the whole world collapses on me—because I am in my King’s thoughts, who cares for us and blesses us always.”
From Perth, Australia, Sonam Tshomo echoed similar sentiments, saying His Majesty’s words instill pride and a powerful sense of belonging among Bhutanese overseas.
“His Majesty’s words give us strength and confidence,” she said. “They remind us to uphold Bhutanese values wherever we are, and to contribute positively not only to our host countries, but also to our motherland. I need nothing more.”
In Toronto, Canada, Sonam Choki described listening to His Majesty’s National Day address and “the golden words” as the most heartwarming moment of the celebrations.
“Thousands of miles away, yet it feels as if home is right here,” she said. “Knowing that His Majesty holds us in his thoughts and prayers makes the distance disappear.”
She added that friends from other countries often express admiration—and even envy—at the deep and rare bond Bhutanese share with their King, a relationship that transcends politics and geography and is rooted instead in trust, compassion, and mutual devotion.
Tandin Wangmo, a student at Royal Roads University in Canada, shared a similar feeling, saying His Majesty’s love and care make life abroad feel “homely,” even in a foreign land.
“His Majesty’s words remind us that we are never truly away from home,” she said.
From the Cayman Islands, United Kingdom, Dechen Tshomo said His Majesty’s words are filled with wisdom, strength, and quiet reassurance. “His Majesty’s trust in us, along with our parents’ love and support, gives me strength to work hard far from home,” she said. “I hope to live up to His Majesty’s expectations and serve my country well.”
In California, USA, Purna Gurung shared that she feels a deep warmth each time His Majesty conveys greetings during National Day and other national occasions.
“Wherever we are, we are protected by our Monarch,” she said simply, capturing a sentiment shared by many Bhutanese abroad.
For Kinley Om, currently in the Maldives, His Majesty’s words alone are enough to inspire perseverance.
“His Majesty’s words motivate us to work harder—for our families, our future, and our country,” he said.
From Australia, Kuentu Lekpa reflected on how deeply personal His Majesty’s remembrance of Bhutanese abroad feels.
“It shows how parents care for their children wherever they are and whatever they do,” he said, adding that the most important message for Bhutanese overseas remains clear:
‘East or west, home is best—and we must return home after gaining skills, experience, and resources.’
From the United Kingdom, Rinchen Lhazey offered a heartfelt message on behalf of many Bhutanese living abroad:
“With the deepest reverence and affection, we humbly convey our gratitude to Your Majesty for your constant care and remembrance of Bhutanese living abroad. Your words give us strength, comfort, and a sense of belonging. We miss Your Majesty and our beloved country deeply and remain eternally grateful for your compassion and guidance.”
As Bhutan marked its 118th National Day, these voices—from Asia to Europe, from North America to Australia—carried a single, shared truth: His Majesty’s compassion transcends borders. His care strengthens identity, nurtures resilience, and binds Bhutanese together wherever they may be.
In a world where distance often weakens connection and identity, Bhutan stands apart—held together by a bond between King and people so profound that no ocean, no border, and no passage of time can ever break it.
