The residents of Samdrup Jongkhar will launch its vision and mission to be Gross National Happiness commercial hub in eastern Bhutan on November 7.
The town residents under the Building Community Initiative (BCI) came up with the vision, mission, and strategy for their town after a day-long visioning exercise at the beginning of the year.
The BCI is a project modeled on involving and engaging citizens in decision making and planning at the local level.
Once launched, the vision and mission will become the guiding document for the development and growth of Samdrup Jongkhar town.
Over the past three years, BCI has implemented several Local Action Projects in Samdrup Jongkhar, including the construction of a vegetable shed at Rikhay. This year Menchari community repaired a chorten (stupa).
The people of Rikhay have revived the paddy cultivation, while a new youth centre was opened in Dewathang.
Dzongkhag officials, Thromde, and relevant stakeholders, Bhutan Centre for Media, will grace the launch and Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy in partnership with Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative is holding the launch with support from the United Nations Development Programme in Bhutan.
