All four gup candidates of Phuentsholing Gewog campaigned on development issues, promising to provide basic facilities, improve connectivity, and execute the 11th plan activities among others.
Two graduates, a former mangmi and a health worker are contesting the gup election.
Birkha Bdr Rai, 28, from Chongeykha-Dophulakha Chiwog is B. Sc graduate from Sherubtse College and has been working as educated farmer for the past three years.
If elected, Birkha Bdr. Rai pledges make effective and practical plans in the next plan where the budget and resources are utilized efficiently and appropriately. “If people support me, I assure to give my best for them,” he said.
Former mangmi, Chandra Man Rai, 37, has worked for 11 years in Phuentsholing Gewog and is looking forward to continue working. He said there are still some unfinished development activities and he would focus on completing those works.
Doshing Lepcha, another Gup candidate, from Pachu Chiwog is a former health worker. He has worked in the health ministry for 20 years.
If elected, he pledges to increase agricultural produces in the gewog, bring about equitable development and address human-wildlife conflict among others. “Acute shortage of drinking water and farm roads are some of the problems the gewog faces,” said Doshing Lepcha. “I will try my best to offer best support and guidance to the people, if elected.”
Tek Bdr. Ghalley, 29, from Deling-Marbji Chiwog said he would work towards increasing agricultural and livestock productivity through forming cooperatives particularly among youths in the villages. He
A B. Com graduate from Kalimpong College, he also pledges improve effective public service delivery. “Sometimes people suffer due to unavailability of officials at the gewog. If elected I will ensure that people can access public service with ease,” he said.
Tek Bdr. Ghalley also plans provide government land on lease to interested groups to work and increase their income. Tek Bdr. has worked at Chiphen Rigphel Project as Administrative Officer and IT Coordinator.
Phuentsholing Gewog has five chiwogs with a combined population of over 3,000 people.
